Company is a leading global supplier of high performance components for the mobile phone market.
Reporting to the Research and Development Manager, the Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer is responsible for all mechanical design activities at the Zurich facility. The central focus of the position is the research and development of designs for novel, miniaturized products incorporating leading-edge technologies, mainly for the consumer electronics industry. A second, complimentary role is in process development support, with responsibility for the design of various fixtures and mounts for new manufacturing processes and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
. Responsible for all aspects of mechanical product design for miniaturized assemblies, intended chiefly for the consumer electronics industry
. In close co-operation with Process Engineering, also responsible for design of fixtures and mounts for new manufacturing processes and equipment
. Research new design approaches, assess applicability and manufacturability of new technologies for future designs
. Research and evaluate competing technologies
. Evaluate manufacturing capability of current and potential suppliers
. Interact both internally and directly with suppliers to improve designs for manufacturability
. Maintain design database, implement and document design changes
. Write specifications, reports and related documents
. Attend and contribute to regular meetings with global development team
Position Requirements:
. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
. 10 years experience in design of miniaturized plastic and metal components
. Experience in design for high volume, with tight tolerances but low-cost
. Good knowledge of processes for injection molding manufacture and tooling
. General machining and metal stamping knowledge
. Experience in design of mechanics for optical devices is an advantage
. Knowledge of micro-actuation technologies (e.g. voice coil, piezo) a bonus
. Able to work independently and have strong project management skills
. Extensive experience in use of 3D CAD, SolidWorks preferred
. Fully at ease working in a multilingual, multicultural environment
. Good presentation skills. Good written and spoken English, with knowledge of German an advantage
. Some international travel is required, up to 15%
